New Member Program

The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.

The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.

Our new member program is one of the most exciting times as a Kappa! We have a variety of formal and informal events that bond our new members through sisterhood.

Bid Day
In January, Delta Tau welcomes a wonderful new member class of well-rounded, compassionate and sisterly young women, following the formal recruitment process. Each recruited new member displayed values close to those of Kappa Kappa Gamma and we have seen every woman thrive as a Kappa thus far. To celebrate our new members, we hold different themed bid days at our house!

Big Little Reveal
Our new members were welcomed with open arms, literally, when they jumped into the embrace of their big sister during big little reveal! During this classic tradition, new members are paired with a big sister/active member to help guide them through the process of becoming a Kappa. The week leading up to the reveal, new members are gifted baskets with clues about who their big sisters might be, their favorite treats and Kappa apparel! On the last day of gifts, new members are given a costume to wear during the reveal, which pairs them with their big sister. To further the anticipation, new members were lined up in costumes with their back facing their big sisters. After everyone counted down to 10, new members turned around and finally saw who their big sister is! Costumes range from astronauts to race car drivers to tacos. While this event is so fun, the symbolic nature of big and little sister helps to create a deeper bond among members and guide each kappa as the develop.

Presents
In March, we present our new members to their family and friends as a wonderful addition to our house. This special tradition here at USC Kappa formally presents all of our new pledge class as new members, in addition to our private initiation ceremony. Girls wear long white dresses and hold flowers as they are presented with a list of a few of their accomplishments, which ranged from completing over 200 hours of community service to starting a non-profit organization!
